As we approach Easter weekend and what has become another huge “Candy Holiday”, take a few seconds to think about what you are going to consume…
The Chicken or the Egg
Did you immediately think of chicken eggs or one of the tasty Cadbury Creme Eggs versions or perhaps a huge chocolate egg shell?
Seriously? If you thought about chicken eggs and the tragedy that is the wasted protein and GAINZ that are being lost in the grass and leaves you can stop reading now… You are good.
Otherwise, read on.
I have yet to meet an overweight person who said “It’s those darn eggs putting on the extra pounds!”
If you are overweight, you probably can’t remember the last time you ate a boiled egg or a simple scrambled egg – no, over easy on benedict doesn’t count, neither does it count as a condiment on your burger even if you got the recipe on the Food Network.
It is easy to forget that eggs are cheap, delicious, high in protein and other vitamins, and are easy to cook and store. They get a bad wrap every few years, but most of the time those “studies” are proven to be BS.
The Good Egg
Some of the benefits of adding boiled eggs to your regular diet:
- Great source of protein – 12.6 grams each!
- Only 1.1 grams of carbs
- Vitamins like D, B6, B12 and E – mostly found in the yolk so eat the frickin’ yolk
- Choline – “brain food”
- High in Lutein which can help prevent macular degeneration
- Some eggs today have Omega-3’s – I don’t care for messing with basic goodness, but this seems ok
Even wonder how many eggs are consumed in the United States each year?
4,880,000,000
That’s 4.8 Billion with a B!
Reminds me of a great scene in Cool Hand Luke, where Paul Newman ate 50 eggs to win a bet.
KISS the chicken
In an effort to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid), try keeping boiled eggs in the fridge on a regular basis. You can boil several and keep them in the fridge for days… go ahead and peel them and put in a sealed container or baggies for on the go convenience. Then, when you are looking for a snack, trade in the high carb item for 2-3 boiled eggs.
A fit body is only achieved by making many small, tangible, good choices throughout each day. Next thing you know a few of those stubborn pounds magically drop and your clothes fit better. Maybe you won’t even feel too self-conscious when you pull the shirt off at the pool, lake, or beach. And just maybe you won’t be shaped like an egg!
That 6 pack is waiting for you to peel back the layers covering them up. Just like an egg shell – seems hard, but if you can just crack the surface all the goodness will come out fast!
Sincerely,
That Guy
