Featured Fitness interview from Donna Bray aka “Sugarfoots615.” One of the first ladies we met online and she is an inspiration! She is always offering suggestions, tips, and advice. She is definitely one of a kind and we know she will make 40ish look even better when she gets there (30ish now)! Hope you enjoy the interview.
Name or Nickname: Donna Bray
Age-ish: 36 Height: 5’2.5″ Weight: 113
Where do you call home: Brunswick, GA
How long have you been into fitness? About 2 years
Anyone or anything that was your motivation? My hubby, Chris. He started running and training in the gym to lose weight. I began running and training a little at home because it was something we could do together and was a great stress reliever. I didn’t want to take the time to travel to the gym everyday and have the hassle of training in front of other people. But he gave me a gym membership for Valentines Day and told me “If you go one time, I swear you will love it.” And I did! We go to the gym together almost everyday. He motivates me to be better and work harder, and I hope that I do the same for him.
Do you train, compete, or are you just living a fit lifestyle? I love to train. I love the feeling of a good pump, and seeing my muscles growing and changing because of the work I put in, in and out of the gym. I feel better overall when I exercise. It is my choice stress reliever. I competed in my first figure competition in June and hope to move into physique competition in the near future.
What workouts give you the best results? (Heavy, Reps, Cardio, Xfit…) When I go to the gym, I spend about an hour and a half training. I lift as much as I can usually for about 10-12 reps. I don’t rest much between sets. I superset most of my exercises and usually end with a drop set or reps until failure.
Current “BIG” goal: I am currently training for muscle growth and hope to compete in a physique competition next year if not before.
Before/After pics or story you want to share? When I first started running again, I was running everyday and not eating properly. I got down to 99lbs before I started lifting. Since starting in the gym, I have gained about 15lbs and feel so much better physically and mentally.
Best fittie moment: When someone stops me in the gym or when I am out and about and says that my body is their “goal-body”, that is definitely a day maker.
Who is your inspiration in the fitness world: Dana Lynn Bailey, Andreia Brazier, Christmas Abbott, Sharlene Franken, Katie Sauter, Tracy Weller are a few.
Biggest fitness struggle? Diet is definitely the biggest struggle for me. We have four kids and having the time to stop and eat, as well as making sure I am eating enough at each meal and getting all the protein I need for muscle growth is my biggest challenge.
Proudest body part transformation? Overall, I am happiest with my weight gain since the start of training and proper diet. But if I have to pick a favorite part, my back is my favorite part of my body to train and to admire.
Favorite training plan and/or meal plan? I love to lift weights, whether it’s machines or free weights. That is what makes me happiest and has given me the best results.
Favorite supps? I use a variety of brands and different supps at different points in my training. One of my favorites is BSN Effervescent Amino X in Green Apple.
Fav follow on Twitter? I have some awesome fitfam friends. I could not choose a fave.
Best tip/advice you would give 40-ish men and women trying to get in shape? When you don’t feel like going, go anyway. And, there will be setbacks and bumps in the road. Everybody has them, I don’t care how big or fit they are. Do not let them discourage you from training. And do not compare your body or your progress with anyone else. That one is tough, I know. But, no two bodies are the same or react to training and diet the same as another.
Favorite quote or advice you’ve been given? Fitness is not about being better than someone else…it’s about being better than you were yesterday.
Favorite fitness website or resource online? I use Youtube almost everyday to look at proper form for new training exercises. BodyBuilding.com is also an awesome resource.
