Which came first… the chicken or the egg?
Which came first… being obese or having negative relationships in your life?
I recently read an article in Mens Health, which was also picked up by Fox News discussing how poor social connections are related to obesity. It made me wonder…
How many obese people are truly happy? Sure we always see pictures of Jolly Old St. Nick and seem to think that fat people are happy.
The Big, Fat Lie
Far from the truth.
I would venture to speculate that there are very few obese people in this world that are happy with their current body fat percentage and their life in general. Much less than the media would have you believe. I would also speculate that most struggle internally on a daily basis with the frustrations of weight loss.
Take a look around and see if you can notice the different perspective and overall positive outlook when comparing the fit vs fat.
Next take a look around at business professionals (in the private sector) and evaluate the fit vs fat percentage. I think you’ll find there are very few top level, successful executives who are obese.
Does anyone in their right mind think that this country is willing to elect Chris Christie as the next Commander In Chief? Just take a look at this picture of Obama and Christie from Spencer Irvine over at aim.
Most would have a hard time voting for an obese candidate on appearance alone. The others would not be able to vote for someone like this because they know there is no self control or some deeper underlying issues – neither of which you want as the leader of the free world!
This article discusses several social reasons which (I assume) are triggering stress and stimulating the brains signals to use food as a method of dealing with the stress or overall negative voices swimming in your head.
Food is Fuel!
Obviously food is a very short term high. In the long run, we all need to stop looking at food as a pleasure item and treat it as fuel.
Think of it like we treat our vehicles… would you fill your sports car with Coca-Cola? No way, premium fuel only.
Think of it another way. We would never consider taking a Coke bath! It would most likely have harmful effects on your skin and pores almost instantly. However, we ingest soda by the gallons and force our bodies internal organs to deal with processing a fuel which is similar to battery acid.
Most “dieters” view food in a negative light.
Until you see food as a means to achieve overall health and fitness it will always be a hurdle. Eventually you will stumble and fall.
Two things:
- Surround yourself with positive people and distance the toxic relationships. We’ll get into this in more detail another time.
- View food as a source of fuel which will enable overall heath not detract from it.
Let’s hear you opinion and thoughts on this. Do you have toxic relationships? Fat and Happy?
Sincerely,
That Guy
