Anyone seen the new ad campaign for Diet Coke in New York City?
Really? Coke marketers are going with a subtle reference to cocaine? I know we’ve gotten a little loose on the drug front – even openly selling marijuana in some states, can’t remember which ones… What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, Diet Coke. JK
Diet Coke and Weight Loss
Science Daily posted an article today (from Obesity journal) discussing the positive role of Diet Coke in weight loss.
This study finds that those who consume Diet Coke feel less hungry and ultimately lost more weight than the group which consumed water. I can’t help but wonder who funded this “scientific study.” HMMMMM?
This is the first article I recall reading where Diet Coke is touted as an
aid to weight loss or frankly has any health benefit at all.
Any 40-ish year old has been subject to many years of marketing campaigns from Coke. And no doubt about it, Coke is the industry leader in beverages and marketing/branding and is a global, household name.
- Coke holds 43% of the beverage market
- There are 1.7 billion servings consumed per day in the world market
- Coke has over 3500 beverages across 500 brands
- Coke cashes in on 35 billion in revenue each year
- The annual advertising budget for Coke is 2.9 billion
Here’s a mind blowing(pardon the coke pun) fact:
If you drank 1 coke beverage per day, it would take you 9 years to try
them all!
No wonder we see the most popular and trendy stars pushing Coke products:
Crack, Coke, or Water
Ok, now seriously….would anyone logically choose Diet Coke over water for weight loss and then say so with a straight face? If so, stop reading here and go away. Far, far away from here because you will be offended and I have a low tolerance for stupidity… And crackheads.
For me, I’ll be making a stop by the grocery on the way home tonight to purchase a 6 pack of Diet Coke. I already have a 6 pack of abs so I won’t be drinking it, but a little research found many other uses around the house, but not much for health reasons:
- Removes rust; methods include using fabric dipped in Coke, a sponge or even aluminum foil. Also loosens rusty bolt
- Cleans oil stains from a garage floor; let the stain soak, hose off.
- Cleans burnt pans; let the pan soak in the Coke, then rinse
- Cleans car battery terminals by pouring a small amount of Coke over each one.
- Cleans your engine; Coke distributors have been using this technique for decades.
- Makes pennies shine; soaking old pennies in Coke will remove the tarnish.
- Cleans tile grout; pour onto kitchen floor, leave for a few minutes, wipe up
- Removes gum from hair; dip into a small bowl of Coke, leave a few minutes. Gum will wipe
- Got a dirty pool? Adding two 2-liter bottles of Coke clears up rust.
- Remove marker stains from carpet. Applying Coke, scrubbing and then clean with soapy water will remove marker stains.
- Cleans a toilet; pour around bowl, leave for a while, flush clean
- Strips paint off metal furniture. Soak a towel in Coke and lay it on the paint surface
A few ingredients you may want to think about before you take a swig of Diet Coke: Aspartame, Orthophosphoric Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzonate and 4-methylimidazole (4-MI).
Just for fun… take a look at what California has learned about 4-MI.
They have added this to the list of “known” cancer causing chemicals. Note that California considers 16 micrograms per day in the danger zone. One can of coke contains 130 micrograms of 4-MI.
So… choose wisely… Water or Diet Coke for help with weight loss…
Me? I will choose water to go along with my real 6 pack.
